Ground-breaking ceremony for Germany’s largest MBR wastewater treatment plant in Wolfsburg

On 10 March, under bright sunshine, the Wolfsburg Wastewater Services (WEB) officially launched the comprehensive modernisation of the Wolfsburg-Stahlberg wastewater treatment plant. With a design capacity of around 220,000 population equivalents, this will become Germany’s largest membrane bioreactor (MBR) wastewater treatment plant.

This project marks an important milestone for Membion GmbH. The company’s multi-patented membrane technology forms the heart of the new membrane biology system and enables significantly improved process quality whilst maintaining a compact design. Furthermore, the system sets new standards in terms of energy efficiency and operational cost-effectiveness.

In collaboration with project partners ZWT Wasser- und Abwassertechnik GmbH and KÖGEL BAU, an impressive demonstration is taking place in Wolfsburg of how modern MBR systems combine maximum treatment efficiency with the sustainable use of resources. Particular emphasis is placed on optimising the total cost of ownership (TCO), thereby delivering both environmental and economic benefits.

Membion is proud to be part of this pioneering project as a technology partner, thereby making a significant contribution to the further development of wastewater management in Germany.

Special thanks go to the WEB for the successful organisation of the launch event.
